FOALS, FANTASTIC WINS, AND FLOGGING MAGAZINES

Another young talent has joined the ranks here at DC, and this one’s only brought a pencil with him. Our new Junior Creative, Thomas Hall, is fresh from uni and has gone and won a D&AD New Blood Award already. Check out his award-winning ‘mashup’ project right here: https://bit.ly/3wKTHWk

But there’s even more to him than pencils and creative glory. We probed his mind with a bunch of questions to find out exactly what’s going on in there.

What are you most looking forward to about working at DC?

Getting stuck into live client projects and asking Kev loads of annoying questions.

Do you have any unusual hobbies? If so, how did you come to start it?

I’ve recently begun collecting awkwardly large, unusable pencils. It all started when I won D&AD New Blood last week. Not that I’m bragging or anything.

What’s the most interesting thing you have read or seen this week? Where did you see it and can you explain why you found it interesting?

I recently read a magazine promoting North East creativity, which I designed, wrote and edited for my final project at uni. It’s a thrilling read. You should buy a copy (please buy a copy, I have 50 of them to shift).

What makes a campaign successful in your opinion and why?

When a simple idea is beautifully executed and creates that ‘aha!’ moment. Turning Playstation icons into Greggs bakes is a pretty good example.

If you had to listen to one band or artist only, who would it be and why?

It would 100% be Foals – they have so many bangers and I just never get bored listening to their music.
