Love it like it’s yours

07/07/2021

With international travel off the cards this year, tourism in Northumberland is expected to boom. Our new ‘Love it like it’s yours’ campaign aims to help people get the best out of Northumberland and to leave it as unspoilt as they found it.

We have lots of important messages to get across to visitors, but we don’t want to be killjoys. It’s not about finger-wagging, it’s about helping people get the best out of their visit by offering them friendly guidance. From finding when and where you’re allowed to camp, to learning about tide time, our aim is to educate people on the dos & don’ts of visiting one of the country’s most rural counties.

There was no one better placed than Northumbrians to offer advice and tips on how to respect the region. So we invited some local, home-grown stars to spread the message far and wide, including Margaret Anderson, Senior Ranger at Northumberland National Park and Ian Woods, Station Officer at Howick Coastguard Rescue Station.

The campaign will feature on TV, digital advertising and across social media. There is also an accompanying toolkit for businesses, with downloadable marketing materials at visitnorthumberland.com.

Councillor Jeff Watson, County Council Cabinet Member responsible for tourism, said “This is a great example of partnership working, bringing organisations and people together to ensure everyone can have a safe and enjoyable summer in our fantastic county.”

Shot by the fantastic Dan Prince, we got to sample the very best of what Northumberland has to offer. We also ticked some pretty unique things off the bucket list, including meeting Wonky, the celebrity lamb with over 10,000 followers on Twitter (I’m not joking).
